What is a hearing aid assessment?
Once hearing loss has been identified, choosing the right technology is the next important step. There is a wide selection of hearing aids on the market, and each is available in a variety of brands, sizes and price points. The assessment narrows that choice to devices that suit you.
Our audiologists evaluate your hearing needs and give recommendations. We are independent, so we are not tied to a single manufacturer.
What is considered when choosing a hearing aid?
- The type and severity of your hearing loss
- Your lifestyle and listening demands, such as work, social settings or noisy venues
- Your budget
- Your eligibility for the Commonwealth hearing services program
What happens at the appointment?
- Review your hearing results. We use a recent hearing test or complete one, so the recommendation reflects your current hearing.
- Talk through your listening needs. We discuss where you struggle most and what matters to you in a device.
- Compare suitable options. We explain the differences in style, features and price across brands including Phonak, Unitron, Bernafon and Starkey.
- Trial and verify. We fit your chosen device and use real ear measurement to check it delivers the amplification your ears need.
Are hearing aids funded?
Eligible clients of the Commonwealth hearing services program may receive fully subsidised devices, or rebate-assisted options if they choose a device outside the program. Pensioners and DVA clients receive fully funded hearing services at our clinics, and NDIS participants are welcome. We confirm what applies to you before you decide.

Which hearing aid brands do you fit?
We are an independent clinic and fit devices from Phonak, Starkey, Bernafon and Unitron. Our recommendation is based on your hearing loss, listening needs and budget rather than one manufacturer's range.
Do I need a hearing test before a hearing aid assessment?
Yes, an up-to-date hearing test is the starting point, because the results guide which technology suits you. If you have not been tested recently, we can complete the test as part of your appointment.
How do I know a hearing aid is working properly?
We use real ear measurement, which checks inside your ear canal that the device delivers the amplification your hearing loss requires. We then review how you are going with follow-up appointments.
Can hearing aids help with tinnitus?
For many people with hearing loss, amplifying everyday sounds makes tinnitus less noticeable. Your audiologist can discuss whether hearing aids may help as part of a wider tinnitus management plan.
